I hope a smile appears on your face as you open this letter. I have no idea where exactly you are while your eyes read my words, all I know is that you are already far, far away from me. And I can’t help my heartache while starting on this letter because it reminds me of the truth : you’ll soon be off to the front, in Syria. And I’m scared, it’s true. You know, when we first got together, four years ago now, I already knew you were going to be a soldier, and I accepted it. Today, you’ve been called on your first mission, and I’m happy for you, truthfully, even if I will miss you terribly.
Know that distance and time don’t matter :
I will be strong, and when you feel that courage running all the way through your body, it will simply be me sending it to you in thought. I will always be close to you, even if you don’t see me. I will take you with me, etching you like stardust in my mind, so that you can always be part of me. I will think about you every day, and remember all the wonderful things we’ve experienced together, your tenderness, your face. I will fall asleep at night imagining the day you come home : you getting out of the plane and me, running towards you. You know, like in the movies!
